You are not wrong in thinking that the Gandalf of "Lord of the Rings" fame didn't have quite this much hair. But some times more hair is more funny. The 50 or so Queensland Funeral Directors that we performed for certainly thought so. When the words "funeral" and "directors" come to mind you don't get the impression of a hilarious good time but that's exactly what Richard Falkner and I had. These guys knew how to have a good time and were more than happy to have a good laugh
Another year, another trip to Australia to work with Cleverfool and one of Patrick’s big clients Ford Australia. This time we headed for the Gold Coast to help out with a gathering of their Parts Managers. Working with Cleverfool always means lots of characters, which I love. This visit was no exception. I got to be David Hasselhoff in full “Baywatch” mode, alongside a security guard and a royal aide. This year we also managed to add some improvisation training into the mix.
When you are embarking on any sort of training process that doesn't involve role specific skills and is a little more holistic there is always the risk that there will be a lack of buy-in and general grumping form some who "don't see how this is relevant to me." This is never more prevalent than when doing something like creativity training. A little while back we talked in this blog about an awesome team-building exercise that we created for Te Papa. The great thing about the place is its uniqueness. There's no other venue around that comes close to it for size, variety of spaces and inspiration. So I thought it might be cool to put a few other suggestions of things that work fantastically in one of Wellington's most fantastic venues: THE BOGUS TOUR Take a tour unlike any other you will ever have at Te Papa! Our
Tonight we treated the good folk of Sports Medicine New Zealand to a good dose of top quality improvisation when Richard Falkner and Nic Gorman attended the SMNZ Conference dinner. For forty minutes Nic and Richard entertained the physios, doctors and health professionals with a tailor-made improv scenes including a highlight for the guests which was a Shakespearean recreation of a Sports Med pros working day. #conference #entertainment #improvisation #newzealand #wellington
Award shows are a great way to reward achievers. Its a great night and at the end people get a tangible reminder in terms of an award. If they win. But people have cottoned on to the award show and the pressure is on to make each year bigger and better than the last. Especially when we watch the TV and see what awards shows can truly be like when unlimited budget is thrown at them. Plumbing World had the right idea - they had an Awards evening as part of their conference that
When you've worked with the same bunch of people for a while the challenge is showing them something that they haven't yet seen before. So it was my real pleasure to unleash Vance Fontaine on the unsuspecting folk of IPENZ this year. Vance Fontaine was a side of me that the IPENZ folk hadn't seen before - including my love of musical improvisation in the mix for the first time. And we added part of The Peculiar Sensations (my improv music band) as well - bringing onboard Tane
