Cricket World Cup 2015
At last its done! With the completion of the New Zealand/West Indies Quarter-final my part in the Cricket World Cup for 2015 is over. The Black Caps are still going though after an amazing match where I was privileged to be able to watch Martin Guptill's amazing innings from down on the turf at the Westpac Stadium.
I got to meet so many amazing fans from all over the world and had a chance to really indulge the cricket fan in me by meeting some amazing ex-players (including humiliating myself in front of one of my idols with a particularly weak throw from the outfield) and being part of an enormous nation-wide party.
I had the chance to be the onfield MC for seven of the games in Wellington, Napier and Hamilton. This involved me doing everything from picking players to watch, MCing sponsor activation, interviewing former players and finding the fans in the stands to get their dancing, singing and observations up on the big screen for everyone to see.
It was a continuation of the work that I've been doing in the sports world recently but it has its applications in other fields too. That sort of high pressure, high expectation live work is what I really thrive on - making the right calls and being able to adapt to changes whilst at the same time delivering value for all the stakeholders is something that is as present in a conference or event as it is at a major sporting championship.
